Teaching and Supervision

According to the Studienordnung 2017 and 2018, the research groups offers the following courses:

Bachelor
  • BP5: Human Information Behavior (obligatory, offered during winter semester)
  • BWP4: Human-Computer-Interaction (optional, offered during summer semester)
Master
  • MP1: Introduction to Information Science (obligatory, offered during winter semester)
  • MWP2: Information Behavior & Information Practice (optional, offered during summer semester)
Distance executive program
  • Human-comuputer interaktion (summer semester)
  • Introduction to information Behavior research (winter semester)
  • Tutorial empirical methods of user research

 

Additionally, the research group intermittently offers project seminars and takes part in the weekly Forschungskolloquium during the semester, where students may seek support in the process of their thesis-writing.


Supervision

Topics

The research group offeres supervision on all theses concerning aspects of Information Behavior. Please find information on possible research areas in our “research” section and the list of former theses offered under the section “Teaching at IBI”. Please make sure to choose a topic you are interested in, which secures the maximum amount of motivation on your thesis project. You may seek our assistance with topic ideas during our consultation hours. Occasionally, the research group offers suggestions for possible projects., Pplease contact us to find out about current opportunities.

Mandatory participation in the Forschungskolleg

For all students enrolled in Studien- und Prüfungsordnung 2017 or later, the participation in the weekly Forschungskolleg (every Tuesday, 2-4 pm) is mandatory. Here we discuss elementary aspects of scientific methods, research questions and literature analysis. We also address challenges with individual thesis projects.

Supervision and Correction

If you are interested in supervision from the research group Information Behavior, please contact your desired supervisor via e-mail or during their consultation hours. For theses, you need two independent supervisors, one of which must be a professor.

Doctoral candidates

If you wish to become a doctoral student at research group for Information Behavior, please send your request to Prof. Dr. Elke Greifeneder, including an exposé for your suggested topic as well as your professional background (CV with copies of your diplomas). Unfortunately, we cannot offer funding for doctoral projects.
