Cartographies for an Inclusive Open Science
Fernanda Beigel
National University of Cuyo | Argentinien
There is a variety of processes of openness among academic communities and social actors which pose questions about how much closedness is embedded in openness and vice versa, and how to measure these intertwined phenomena. This presentation has been framed in these basic concerns and intends to advance towards the analysis of the intersection between openness and inclusion, considering that open access is necessary but not sufficient to achieve a more equitable and effective scholarly communication globally.
In the convergence of the field approach and the perspective of structural heterogeneity of the scientific communities, Beigel has built a conceptual framework to assess the combinations observed in the space of open science and describe the stakeholders that represent forces towards inclusiveness or exclusiveness.
After exploring the main indicators of inclusive openness, 5 cartographies are proposed for a global mapping of these trends and the discussion at stake towards a just transition to open science:
1) a comparison of the distribution by country of repositories of published output and primary data repositories,
2) a map of the Current Information systems (CRIS) and their different developments at the national and institutional level,
3) a cartography of persistent identifiers of digital resources comparing DOI, ARK, ORCID and ROR
4) a cartography of non-fee indexed journals
5) a map of multilingualism in scholarly publishing, by platform.
Finally, some examples of relevant stockholders in the current state of openness and inclusiveness are discussed.
The talk will take place in the following Zoom room, separate registration is not necessary: Zoom room
