Extraktion Vossianischer Antonomasien aus großen Textkorpora
Michel Schwab, IBI HU Berlin
A Vossian Antonomasia (VA) is a stylistic device, that describes a person or another named entity by naming another person who is wellknown for a certain property. Consider the example "Bastian Schweinsteiger is the Günther Jauch of football". A VA typically consists of a source (Günter Jauch) whose property (in this case: being exceptional popular among Germans) is used to describe a target (Bastian Schweinsteiger), the transfer of meaning is reached via a modifier ("of football").
This phenomen was first described by Gerardus Vossius (1577 - 1649), a Dutch classical scholar and author of rhetorical textbooks, but no (automated) identification of VA in larger text corpora has been made yet to explore its breadth and variety. In this talk, we focus on the automated extraction of VA from 1.8 million news articles of the New York Times using named entity recognition, Wikidata and Neural Networks.
