Digital library education
Referat von Dr. Olivia Frost am 13. Mai 2008
Abstract
This presentation suggests measures for determining components of
digital library education and assessing their effectiveness.
First, research studies in digital library education can identify
core topics which can be used as guidelines for determining
curriculum content. Second, descriptions for job postings in
digital libraries can suggest core content areas, as well as
cross-cutting skills needed to deal with a complex and rapidly
changing professional environment. A third metric is placement of LIS
students in internships and placement in professional positions
upon graduation. Examples are given of how the model can be used to
evaluate digital library education at the University of Michigan
School of Information.
