Admission requirements

These requirements must be met in order to apply for the study program:

Educational requirements: Only applicants who have already completed a course of study at a (state-recognized) university, college or university of applied sciences - regardless of the field of study - by passing an examination (Staatsexamen, Magister, Diplom, Bachelor, Master) can be admitted.

Practical activities: Prerequisite for the application is "practical work experience that is federally related to the study objective" and is chronologically after the first university degree qualifying for a profession. This experience should not be less than one year; it does not necessarily have to be in the library field.

Admission criteria

If there are more applicants than available places, a ranking is formed from the applicants eligible for admission and places are allocated according to this ranking. The following selection criteria are taken into account:

Selection criterion 1: Final grade of the previous degree.

Selection criterion 2: Subject of the previous degree. Depending on the subject, bonus points may be awarded. (according to admission rules [DE] (subject-specific ZZR, p. 86))

Selection criterion 3: Previous or current professional experience in the library, information or documentation field. Here it is relevant (in contrast to the year of access) whether the work was/is professionally relevant and qualified. If you can prove - in addition to the access year - at least 12 months of previous professional activity (in the last 10 years before the application year) OR at least 3 months of current professional activity (in the application year), bonus points will be awarded. (according to access and admission rules [DE] (subject-specific ZZR, p. 86))
